#11 Vet in Southampton, Hampshire
Seadown Veterinary Services Limited provides small-animal care (dogs, cats and rabbits) and also works in equine medicine, with the practice website citing 100 years of experience. Based on the website and recent reviews, the clinic appears set up for higher-acuity cases as well as referrals—particularly eye problems—alongside routine care: owners describe hospital-style treatment for serious emergencies (including overnight/continuous care such as drip therapy), and multiple reviews name an ophthalmologist who performs same-day assessment and surgery when needed. Recent reviewers also describe practical, decision-focused communication (long consultations explained in plain language) and regular updates during hospitalisation; one review raises concerns about cost, delays, and not seeing the same vet consistently.

Prompt and efficient care and advice

I’ve had to use sea down around a half dozen times, never seen the same vet twice, always running late, overpriced and whilst the service has sometimes been good, at others it has been dismal.

Due to a severe medical issue with our dog we were advised to go to Hythe which is more of a pet hospital, from the moment we first walked in ,to the point we left ALL of the staff were ,fantastic, the surgeon was very thorough and even though we had the last appointment of the day and I’d imagine the lady wanted to go home at one point I was in with the surgeon with my 20 year old daughter, I had to go out to move my car and the lady spent a further 45 mins talking and explaining very concisely but also in “laymen’s terms” so my daughter fully understood everything she needed to know and she highlighted my daughters choices. At the end of the appointment my daughter was expecting to have to pay more for her time but she actually reduced the bill to help my daughter with her choices . Her empathy, understanding and care was absolutely amazing, I think a score of 10/10would fall way short of the mark for everything the practice did, would I recommend them? Without any doubt whatsoever

My daughter & I found a seriously injured cat that had been hit by a car & left in the road. He had severe injuries to his back legs & spine but I managed to snuggle him in my jumper & we rushed him to Seadown. The staff instantly ran to take him from me at which point the shock hit me & I couldn't stop shaking. The 2 receptionists & the nurses were so caring and kind, for which my daughter and I are extremely grateful x

Have had cats registered with the practice over the past 15 years. Usually use the Lymington office; the animal hospital at Hythe we use only for more serious matters. Most recently, cat was accidentally given a capsule of human anti-inflammatory/painkiller instead of a prescribed cat medicine. A massive overdose. Could have killed her. Managed to get cat to vet at animal hospital for initial treatment within 2 hours. She was put on drip for 2-3 days and treated otherwise as well. After 2.5 days, she was well enough to come home. We were kept updated twice-daily by staff, who seemed genuinely caring. Cat is now back to normal, instead of being dead or permanently injured, all thanks to the vets, nurses, and other staff. The bill was rather expensive, to say the least, and I could only settle about 80% of it on the day of cat's discharge from hospital, but the reception staff lady accepted that without fuss, and I was able to pay the rest on the following day, by telephone. Excellent service, and will certainly continue as client.

Really impressed with the level of care we received from ophthalmologist Miroslava. You can really tell she is passionate about her job. She was very thorough explaining everything to us & you never feel rushed. Her care for the animals is second to none. My french bulldog was very at ease in her company and enjoyed her tasty treats. The reception staff are also a pleasure to deal with. Thank you!

Dr Palenikova was absolutely marvellous. Our chowsky puppy Jaspe had been suffering terribly with entropion eyelids. Our general vet was recommending that we wait until Jaspe was fully grown before operating. Dr Palenikova recognised from our photos that an ulcer had formed in Jaspe’s right eye. She asked us to come to her right away and offered to perform the surgery the same day. Jaspe was quickly out of pain and her old playful, cheeky self again. The ulcer healed within a week and her eye was saved. We are so very grateful to Dr Palenikova for her rapid and skilful intervention. The right decision and the right specialist! Ian & Dominika

I can’t recommend Seadown Vets in Hythe highly enough. I’ve used their out-of-hours service twice for serious emergencies, and each time the team responded with genuine compassion and professionalism. Most recently, my rescue cat underwent a transformative procedure, and the care shown by the vets and nurses was outstanding. They were kind, supportive, and encouraged me to share my pet’s story - something they handled with their PR agency with the utmost respect and sensitivity. Every experience has been incredibly positive. Thank you to the entire team for the exceptional care you provide.
